Working to enable young people to fulfil their true potential

SUPPORTING YOUTH WORK: Management & Other Services

Support for Existing Projects

Start-Up Support

OUR BACKGROUND

Since 1942 Youth Clubs Hampshire and Isle of Wight (YCHIOW) has been providing a continuous service across the wider-Hampshire area supporting young people, youth work, youth workers and youth organisations. We always strive for excellence in what we do and in what we are able to support other people to achieve.

We have supported fledgling youth organisations during their critical start up process as well as enabling more established projects to develop further what they are able to offer the young people they serve. We also provide access to high quality training and development.

Over the last 69 years we have maintained a workforce of between 70-150 paid staff and volunteers with all the management processes in place necessary to enable such a workforce to remain safe and effective and to achieve highly.

We believe our track record places us in a unique situation to be able to offer a range of support services to any youth work project, voluntary or statutory, that wishes to offer young people access to high quality youth work services.

WHAT IS YOUTH WORK?

What is Youth Work? “YCHIOW believes that good youth work practice is about creating a stimulating, supportive environment negotiated with the young people in which each individual may continue to grow ethically, morally, physically and emotionally and gain appropriate knowledge and experience, in order that they may find their place in society, whilst developing a positive regard for themselves and others.”

(Extract from YCHIOW Strategic Development Plan for 2012-15)

We believe that youth work is a unique and valuable approach to working with young people that provides them with many positive benefits...
